Must Watch

La Haine (Medan vi faller(Swe)/Hate(US)/Hatred(UK))

French youth/ghetto movie from 1995. This is the ghettomovie to see, if you want to see anyone. It's absolutely brilliant, from the story of the man that is falling to the whole concept that goes through the movie. Even though I have to say one negative thing though, using the phrase that this movie is dedicated to all that died during the making of the movie, is somewhat strange. It just can't be real. But besides this it's brilliant, like the phrase; - A man jumps from house and for every floor he passes, he repeats the words, "to this moment, nothing has gone wrong", but it's not how you're falling that matters, it's how you land! The story? Well, there's a riot in the poor suburbs of Paris("La Cite"), a result of police brutality, and a police loses his gun...

U-Turn(Stray Dogs(US working title)

American movie from 1997. An Oliver Stone movie(maybe that says it all). Like all of Stones movies a bit over analytic, and it also carries one devestating cliché, which nearly wrecks the movie. But well, imagine this; You're on the run from some gangster, which threatens to chop of your fingers since you're a bit late with debt you had to him, and you're car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, and then almost everything that can go wrong goes wrong. One of many examples is to have, or almost have sex with the wrong person. A quite entertaining movie, even though it's nowhere near the redneck genres masterpiece "Finnjävlar", but that goes without saying.

Fucking Åmål (Show Me Love(US)/Raus aus Åmål(Ger)/Laska je Laska(Slovakia))

Swedish movie from 1998(US realese 1999, French realese 2000). Something as unusual as a movie for teenagers that actually moves you. Or by the way... Something as unusual as a movie that moves you... Actual Plot: Teenage life in a godforgotten little town in the countryside isn't that easy. Especially when you're alone and in love. You just pray for something to happen. And when it actually does... It isn't at all something you've planned to happen...

Heavenly Creatures (Svarta Änglar(Swe))

New Zeeland 1994. A good story. A good movie, but somewhat depressive. Actual Plot: Two wrongs does make a right. And a some lesbian love. And a murder. And two teenagers in love. Said to be based on a true story.

Land and Freedom (Land och frihet(Swe)/Tierra y Libertad(Spain))

England/Spain/Germany 1995. The story of a british communist who travels to Spain to fight for the republic in the spanish civilwar 1936-39. In Spain he finds out that things aren't that easy as the party and the textbooks says.

Libertarias (Freedomfighters(UK)/Frihetskämparna(Swe))

Spain 1996. Story of a nun and a "feminist soldier"(dont know how to label what she is, and thats good!) during the spanish civilwar. It starts at the outbreak of the spanish civilwar, when convent is under attack(as a symbol for the old and traditional society). Anyway the nuns that lives in the convent is forced to flee. In the movie we follow the youngest(and said to be purest) nun and her ways through the civilwar in the company of some radical revolutionaries(women mostly). In my opinion the movie has a somewhat lesbian theme, even though nothings ever made clear to the audience.

Tesis (Snuff(Swe)/Thesis(US/UK))

Spain 1996. A story of a female student who does her exam work about a phenomona called snuff-movies and find out to much. In a sense an example of the traditional "trust no one"-theme but it's done very good, and in the movie there's a undertone of critisism of the spanish filmindustry(the plot is set at a instution for filmstudies in a large town).

Vita è bella, La (Livet är underbart(Swe)/Life is beautiful(US/UK))

Italy 1998. A story of love stronger than anything. How it survives under the most brutal of conditions, and a man who cares so much for his family that he's willing to sacrifice everything for them... Amazing how I can like anything that gets the "Palm d'Or" i Cannes... I must be losing my grip. But then again... I liked Pulp Fiction too...

Mifunes sidste sang(Mifunes last song(US/UK)/Mifune(Swe))

Denmark 1999. A dogma film, with all that comes with it. Its a pretty miserable story, but it's good. But don't expect yourself to be cheerful after you seen this one...

Stargate (TV-series, Pilot Episode)

Who said that the egyptians build the pyramids? Actually I'm a bit of Science Fiction freak and this is entertaining for people who loves that genre.

American Psycho

USA 2000. This is a movie that takes it toll. Not the cynical violence, but is he dreaming or is it reality? That's a thing that's left to analyze... The plot is about a man who has no other interests or can't find a kick in life in something except killing other people, and how this urge grows stronger every day(then if its not a dream, then this is the plot...)

Thursday

USA 1998. Just another ordinary thursday in an ordinary suburb, when a friend from the old days comes knocking on the door of a man with a not to spotless past. He leaves some money at his place and some drugs and then the nice people starts dropping in... Just my fascination for gangster movies that comes to life here. This is a good movie... Even though it's not new in any way... (censored in Canada)

Bad Taste

New Zeeland 1987. A village at coast of New Zeeland is under the attack of aliens, who want's some human meat to sell in the galaxy. But it's not the story that's great with this movie, no it's that it has been done without any support of traditional institutions for filmmaking. This movie ment a lot to me when I was younger. Perhaps not today, but together with the Making of Bad Taste documentary, its hard to find anything more inspiring... (censored in Australia)

Highlander

USA 1984. For years they've walked around the earth, the immortals, a people who can only die when their head is cut of(though some nice swordfightingscenes in the movie). No it's the time of the gathering, when they'll all meet and chop each other heads off, to win the price(which is supposedly control of the planet or something). This movie was an object of fanatism for some years, as other finds Star Wars cool(well you know the story). Hum, so I'm a fanatic...

Highlander II Renegade Version

USA 1995. Now the Highlander has won the price and grows old(the price of it all). An old antagonist want's him dead, and on that way it is. This movie is cast in a depressing future when ozonelayer is gone and is replace with a shield that looks like puke. I said I was a fanatic. Though, don't go and rent the lousy first version of this movie...

Highlander III The Sorcerer

USA 1995. Though a copy of the first one. I'm still a fanatic. Se the first Highlander Movie...

Funny Games<

Austria/Germany 1997. Well what can happen when your on vacation to sea, in place where only rich people resides? Well, if you're to belive the synopsis in this movie, pretty much of unpleasant things can happen when your on vacation. Even if it's in a place you know too well. A story 'bout the cynical society we live in. Though it has some annoying sequences that most people don't like.

Lola Rennt (Lola springer(Swe)/Run Lola Run(Aus))

Germany 1998. Lola is running to help her boyfriend. What will happen? It's kind of hard to describe this movie(which is good), but it's a good movie. Even better if your a fan of techno music. Even though it can be kind of confusing for the usual consumer.

The Big Lebowski

USA 1996. An entertaining movie about doing nothing right, and capitulate when something gets wrong. Fuck it! Let's go bowling!

Blair Witch Project

USA 1998. Entertaining if you've ever tried to make a movie yourself, even though it's quite questionable in sense of competent work...

An Enchanted April (En förtrollad april(Swe))

UK/Italy 1992. Fills me with positive thoughts. Makes me think that all people are beatyful in a sense... The story goes like this. In the years between the two worldwars(I think, it's not stated anywhere), two friends(both women) decides to rent a castle in Italy and spends a month there. During that time they rediscover who they really are, far away from a rainy, foggy London.

Swing Kids

USA 1993. Deeply moved here too... Even though some doesn't see why... About a couple of swing kids in german nazi era.

Mallrats

USA 1995. Actually... it's nothing special about this movie. It's just funny... I laughed and laughed when I saw it the first time...

Easy Rider

USA 1969. Do what you wan't. If you going to be a bird in the sky. Kyrie Elsion Mardi Gras. I wasn't born to follow. The best roadmovie ever.

Troop De Bonheur (Too Much Happiness(UK/US))

France 1995. A interesting youthmovie, with a lot interesting views on aspects of teenage life which never would've been shown on a swedish cinema.

Fanfan y Alexandre (Fanfan(Swe))

France 1992. Another love, or at least something like that -movie, in this case more traditional but yet quite good. Well, I'll loved it at least...

The Usual Suspects (De misstänkta(Swe))

USA 1993. The large production volume of Hollywood makes it possible for them(though most of the movies that comes out of there is pure crap) to produce a few good movies too. This is one of them. The synopsis is that a bunch of thiefs are called in to pose for a identification, suspected for a crime(robbing a truck), and it ends in quite a different way.

Smoke

USA 1992. What should I call this movie? A reflection of everyday life perhaps? Becuse it is. In a sense. It's a kind of documentary feeling over this movie, and everything evolves around a tobaccoshop at a streetcorner in New York.

Now to my must not watch list

(which contains most of the movies i've seen in cinema in the last years...)

Gladiator<

USA 2000. This sucks. But if you're into overproduced, falsifications of actual historical events and Hollywood romanticism of reality, you'll like this one

Wild, wild west

USA 1998. Typical example of a crap movie, with no soul, no real manuscript and Will Smith(when he's absolutely not funny).

Now to my list of horror movies

The Night of the Living Dead

USA 1968(B&W) 1990(Color). The first movie in black and white, not the Italian remake. This is the first movie in a classic zombietriology directed by the wellknown George A. Romero. If I remember correctly the story is about a sattelite witch transmits brainwaves that makes people into zombies and they're on their way out, to eat brains. Not the most intelligent story, but who cares. It's not like the case of Gladiator where they depict something incorrect as reality. In genre which has seen a lot of lousy movies, this one quite good. In a sense... But you have to see it for what it is...

Zombi(Dawn of the living dead/Zombie: Dawn of the dead/Zombies/Dawn of the dead(all US/UK)

Italy 1978. The sequel to the above mentioned movie. This time in color. Now the zombies has taken over the world, or at least transmitted the disease they were carrying to all humans. One of the better zombiemovies in my opinion.

The Day of the Dead(Day of the living dead/Zombie: Day of the dead(all US/UK)

Italy 1985. The last movie in the triology. This time theres only a few humans left, in a army storage facility, underground. They carry out experiments on the zombies in order to gain knowledge about them, and gets in conflict with the militarymen that are left in the bunker. Not to be confused with Candyman: Day of the dead.

Gato Ne Cervello, Un(Midnight Concert/Nightmare Concert/Cat in the brain, A(All US/UK)

Italy 1990. This isn't a real movie, it's just a collection of scenes that appeared in earlier work of Fulci, tied together like a nightmare(for the director, that is...). I isn't particulary good either, but I will not judge Fulci, since he almost succeded in rising up to George A. Romeros level in another movie, that he made, House by the Cemetary. And, yes, just to point it out, to make my friends happy, I was nauseated when I saw this movie the first time. So I'm a wimp(and what else is new?).

...and then she Screamed<(Den Avhuggna Handen(Swe))

UK. 1985. A lowbudget try to make a real horrormovie. But it stinks. Pathetic sound effects. Mist only in the cemetary and so on. So she screams, well I couldn't care less, anyway... Not good, and on top of that, somewhat judgemental. (it isn't even listed in the IMDB!)

Re-animator

US. 1985. A decent movie. But somewhat naive. Of course since it's a horrormovie, you might think. Well they don't have to be that naive. A story of experiments carried out on corpses, that makes them live again and gets them upset.

Violent Shit 2

Germany. 1992. A hobbiemovie about a serialkiller that hates humanity. Supposed to be know for it's gorey effects. Some actually say that they felt nauseated when they saw the movie. I didn't. The effect weren't that real. With higher budget, maybe...

Bloody Wednesday(Great American Massacre, The(Also US)

USA. 1985. A supposed documentary about a serialkiller who walks into a coffeshop and kills everyone in it. A boring movie actually. Not good at all.
