Italian Hardcore. Chaos non musica. Ah... Just listen to Wretched and you'll understand how anger is supposed to be expressed!
Albums (that I know of): Lotto Per Vivere(Comp CD 199x), Indigesti/Wretched(Split EP 1982), Finiria Maí(EP 1983), Libero Di Vivere, Libero De Moriero(LP 1984), La Tua Morte Non Aspetta(12" 1986), In Controluce(EP 1988), The Furious Years of Italian Hardcore/Punk in 7"(Comp CD 199x)
Swedens most entertaining punk/hardcore act at the moment; DS-13 (short for Demon System 13). Something as unusual as a hardcore act with selfdistance(I know, it sounds unbelivable). One sad thing is that I've only been able to listen to the material that they've realeased on tape, since the I've got no recordplayer... But hey... Doesn't bother me to much... "Snacka inte sexism med mig punkjävel" is a good tune, and not to forget, their Step Forward cover, "Does it make a difference?". Sadly enough they're not with us anymore. Just like the other great Umeå-band of the past-Refused era, Epileptic Terror Attack.
Albums (that I know of): Vad vet vi om kriget?, Live in Fukktown(Tape comp.) and a lot of 7"
Regardless, a great inspiration in my life, and probably one of the bands that meant most to me in my life. I'm writing about Suicidal Tendencies. I love them, and I'll probably always will. They shooked me in my early teens with texts that I could identify myself with, and have helped me through some hard times in my life. By the way, and regardless what people say, the record that I discovered them with (Art of Rebellion) will always be my favourite record of all time. Their song "Join the Army" has been covered by a lot of bands through time, including the swedish band 59 Times the Pain, but my favourite is probably "Asleep at the Wheel" with it's wonderful line "I thought you were different, but who are you judging, I thought you were different, but who are you judgeing" and a lot of other songs too.
Albums (that I know of): Suicidal Tendencies, Join the Army, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow, When I Can't Even Smile Today?, Lights! Camera! Revolution!, Feeling Like Shit / Deja vú, Art of Rebellion, Still Cyco After All Theese Years(remake of Suicidal Tendencies), Suicidal for Life and Freedumb
Probably the best band in the world(oh, I have to stop using those phrases), Gorilla Biscuits. Or at least they recorded the best album ever in the record "Start Today". The bad thing is that they only managed to make one more recording. People from this band later appeared in Quicksand, and the singer Civ has made a couple of solo albums.
Albums(that I know of): Start Today and Gorilla Biscuits
Scottish pop band Belle and Sebastian... The song "Get me away from here" is absolutely marvellous. Be sure to listen to this group once in a while...
Albums(that I know of): Tigermilk, The Boy With The Arab Strap, If Your Feeling Sinister and Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant
Broder Daniel. I know... Too whiny... Well... I just love them. And have done that ever since I heard them for the first time in the movie "Fucking Åmål".
Albums(that I know of): Saturday Night Engine, Broder Daniel and Broder Daniel Forever(Also appeared with three songs on the soundtrack of Fucking Åmål)
Brutal Truth. Sounds of the animal kingdom. Need to say more? No... Fascinating and sometimes experimental grindcore. "Average People" is a true hit... It goes straight to my heart.
Albums(that I know of): Extreme Conditions Demands Extreme Responses, Kill Trend Suicide and Sounds of the Animal Kingdom
Fastball. Still rambling around to find the way. May be thought of as a "one hit wonder" but the album which contains "the Way" is competent work without any weak moments...
Albums(that I know of): All the Pain that Money can buy and The Harsch Light of the Day
(International) Noise Conspiracy. Some think of this group as treason to the ghost of long dead hardcoregroup "Refused". I don't. Life's to short. Anyway. Politically correct and wonderful music to enjoy with it. Could it be better? Don't think so... Watch out for the songs "Survival Sickness" and "T.I.M.E.B.O.M.B." they will run over you.
Albums(that I know of): Survival Sickness and The First Conspiracy(collection of some vinyl singles)
Atari Teenage Riot. Inspiring and fascinating digital hardcore. "The chance for the future is making noise in my head". Just enjoy it. Be sure to listen to the song "Destroy 2000 years of culture".
Albums(that I know of): Delete Yourself, Future of War and 60 Second Wipeout
Refused, Abhinanda, Drift Apart, Shield and others hardcorebands that rocked my teenage world. I still listen to masterpieces like "Guilty", "Burning", "Fascistproof Armour", "Outside", "Jag äter inte mina vänner", "Song for steve(Bloodpath)" and the mighty Separations track "Is it over?".
Better than a thousand. Two records made. Two unforgettable moments of how I think that hardcore should sound. Be sure to listen to "Demand Independence". The singer in this band was Ray Cappo from the legendary "Youth of Today". Ray Porcell from the same band was also member of this band. It's sad to see that Ray Cappo now has quit music for other interests, even though it might be time for a change in his live, well, I'm not sure if I'm the only one but I would've liked to see a continuation of this project.
Albums(that I know of): Just One and Value Driven
Nightfall. A great "art metal" act with some black metal influences. They started out as a Candlemass/Black Metal act but has since then evolved a lot. Since the beginning of their carrer they've been stationed at the french label Holy Records, a label which have signed a lot of "strange" acts who label their music as art. "Lesbian Show" (even though the title it has no real connection with homosexual women) is a marvellous track...
Albums(that I know of): Parade Into Centuries, Black Queen Your Mine EP, Macabre Sunsets, Eons Aura, Athenian Echoes, Lesbian Show, Electronegative and Diva Futura
Looptroop. Excellent swedish hip hop from Västerås. It's a quite political group sometimes and in the song "Jag sköt Palme"(I Shot Palme) they state the fact that we all know, yes... "Den enda sanna demokraten är anarkist"(The only true democrat is an anarchist).
Albums(that I know of): Modern Day City Symphony and Long Arm of the Law 12"
Plastic Pride. A fine group from Umeå in the north of Sweden. Known as the band who has least fans in the hardcorescene(don't ask me why). The track appearing on "Straight Edge as Fuck 3", "Is this what I've found?" is my personal favourite with the band.
Albums(that I know of): Daredevil I Lost, No Hot Ashes and Noir 7"(also appeared on Straight Edge as Fuck 3)
Bay Laurel. Svartrock(Anyone know the english expression?) from Karlstad. Well good music at least. Especially the record "Days of Joy" which is marvellous! One on the tracks on this recording, "In Sorrows Tide" is a personal favourite with the band.
Albums(that I know of): Under A Clouded Sky, Days of Joy, Lost In Black Love, Bitter Intoxications and Where Pain comes to Die
One King Down. My favourite metalcore group that realeases their material on the Equal Vision label. Good lyrics and many other things make this my absolute favourite in this genre. Or as stated in Close Up Magazine (though not properly qouted, but who gives a shit?) "Give One King Down 30 minutes of your life every day in a week and you'll come out as a better human being".
Albums(that I know of): Jawbreaker Demo, Absolve EP, One King Down/Spirit of Youth split, Bloodlust Revenge, God Love Man Kills, One King Down/BK split and Gravity Wins Again
Botch. Interesting Jazz/Metal/Hardcore/Whatever-group from Seattle. Though it sometimes can be quite intense music to listen to, it's good. Not the typical act that I would like, but still I like them a lot. One sad thing is that it's almost impossible to get their records here in Sweden. Since I couldn't find a actual homepage for the band, the link goes to their recordcompany, Hydrahead. One favourite is their cover of Carl Orff's classical opera song "O Fortuna".
Albums(that I know of): American Nevroso and We Are The Romans
Oh... almost forgot the excellent band The Smiths. Or, well... They've got a few tracks, but then... Name a artist who hasn't made a halflousy track then... Personal favourite; Unlovable. And a link to Shoplifters Union which is a collection of links concerning The Smiths.
Forgot Randy too... The "You can't keep a good band down" record is good from the beginning to the end. But that doesn't make up for all the lousy skatepunk they realesed back in the days(only a few good songs like Religion, religion was before this album)...
Albums(that I know of): No Carrots For The Rehabilited, The Ska Ep#1, There is no Way that Were Going to Fit In, Education for Unemployment EP, At Any Cost EP, The Rest Is Silence and You Can't Keep a Good Band Down (They've also appeared on the collections; "Northcore, the polar scene compilation" and the promosingle for the "Adrenaline" tour 1993).
As true as always. It's hard to name every group you like. I just remembered that I missed quite a few up there, as usual. Well I could publish my recordcollection on the web. That would be the idea, but then, I still wouldn't be able to name all groups, artists and musicians that I like, but for one reason or another, I'll give it a shot; Crass, Conflict, Chain of strength, Oysterband, Levellers, Shiftplus, Insted, Up Front, NWA, Congress, Liar, Blindfold, Texas is the reason, Eminem, Misery Loves Co, Voice of a Generation, Bombshell Rocks, Guttersnipe, The Partisans, Entombed, Otyg, Gypsy Kings, Yvonne, Souls, Cathedral, Queens of the Stone Age, Solace, Shield, Midnight Oil, Fahnenflucht, Minor Threat, Crivits, Zaunpfahl, Wohlstandskinder, No Exit, Die Ruhrpottkanacken, Ebba Grön, KSMB, Bitch Boys, Rukorna, Sham 69, The Pogues, Jesus Lizard, The Presidents of the United States of America, Kalle Baah, Shelter and a whole lot of other bands... See? I simply just cannot name them all...
